Borneo and Southeast Asia are the native home of the small, sub-storey Tampoi/Baccaurea Macrocarpa fruit tree. Tampoi can range in size from a 5-meter-tall shrub to a tree with a dense crown that is at least 25 metres tall. The fruit is sold in surrounding markets, and the plant is also grown in gardens. To be used locally, the eatable fruit is collected from the wild.

It has flesh that is off-white, soft, and juicy and has a sweet to sour flavour. It can be consumed fresh, stewed, or preserved. The golden-yellow, spherical fruit has a diameter of 25 to 60 mm and is produced in tiny clusters of three to five fruits.
