Malpighia Emarginata, a tropical fruit-bearing shrub or small tree of the Malpighiaceae family, is also known as the Sweet Acerola Cherry. Common names for this plant include wild crepe myrtle, Barbados cherry, West Indian cherry, and Guarani cherry. The tree or shrub begins to produce substantial numbers of 1-3 cm in diameter brilliant crimson drupes after three years. Drupes have three triangle-shaped seeds inside. The drupes are juicy and incredibly nutrient-rich, especially in vitamin C. The acerola cherry is indigenous to North Colombia and Mexico.
