Eugenia Uniflora, sometimes known as the Surinam cherry, is a large conical shrub or small tree that is native to South America. Pitanga cherries, Cayenne cherries, Florida cherries, and Brazilian cherries are some alternative names for this cherry.

Surinam cherries are little fruits with an ovate to spherical, somewhat flattened appearance. The fruit’s skin is highly ribbed with 7-8 vertical ridges and is exceptionally thin, smooth, delicate, and glossy. The fruit’s surface will change from green, orange, and red to red-blue and crimson when it is mature, depending on the type. It is essential to keep in mind that Surinam cherries should only be consumed at their peak ripeness. When completely ripe, Surinam cherries are tender to the touch and easily come off the stem. The fruits’ flavour will be somewhat acidic, sweet-tart, and earthy.

Cherries are a good source of vitamin A, which keeps organs functioning regularly, and vitamin C, which boosts the immune system. The fruits also include iron to produce haemoglobin, which delivers oxygen through the bloodstream, calcium and phosphorus to strengthen bones and teeth, antioxidants to protect cells from free radical damage, and iron.
