Up to 5 metres tall, Eugenia sulcata is a fast-growing deciduous shrub or small tree with a thin, globose crown. Both subtropical and tropical regions are suitable for their growth. It grows natively from Brazil’s state of Esprito Santo to Santa Catarina and is endemic to the Atlantic Forest. Locals forage for the edible fruit in the wild and eat it. Its flesh is succulent and somewhat sweet. It can be consumed fresh or turned into ice cream, jams, and liquids.
