The Mooty Fruit/Baccaurea Courtallensis tree is an evergreen with a low, spherical, dense crown that can reach heights of 15 to 25 metres, however it typically grows to be shorter. It is only found in India’s Western Ghats highlands, where it is endemic. The flowers are dioecious and scarlet in colour. The inflorescence is cauliflorous, growing on the tree trunk in long stalks organised in clusters. All around the trunk, there are clusters of the male inflorescence. The majority of the female flower clusters are found at the trunk’s base. The tree is also grown for shade and as an ornament.
