The internal texture of “Pantin’ Mamey Sapote” is creamy and delicious. Its flesh is an intense shade of salmon. An ancient fruit known as Mamey Sapote or Pouteria Sapota is still grown today in Mexico, Central America, and South America. Mamey sapote fruit ranges in size from medium to large and has a round, oval, or oblong form, occasionally with tapering, pointy ends. The skin is grainy, scruffy, and somewhat rough, and ranges in colour from light to dark brown. Underneath the skin, the flesh is soft, creamy, and dense with a delicate, silky consistency and a mild squash-like odour. Its colours range from orange to red to salmon.
There are also one to four glossy, black-brown, elliptical seeds in the centre of the meat. Only when fully ripe and giving slightly when squeezed, mamey sapote is palatable.
Vitamins A and C as well as potassium are abundant in mamey sapote. Additionally, it is a top-notch source of dietary fibre.
