An evergreen tree belonging to the Sapotaceae family, maco sapote is a very well-known fruit from Peru. It resembles the Pouteria lucuma, which can reach heights of 25 metres or more. The fruit is abundant and has a pulp that is somewhat dry, sweet, and highly aromatic. It can also be dried and made into a meal that can be added to wheat flour, cornmeal, or starch and used to make a variety of drinks and desserts. The meal gives ice cream, sherbets, puddings, and other foods a strong flavour and colour. Few big seeds are present in the fruit with brown skin.
