The best-tasting and most uncommon garcinia is native to Ecuador and is called Garcinia macrophylla gigantic. It is an evergreen tree that reaches heights of 8 to 12 metres and has stiff, leathery leaves. For the fruit, it is sometimes harvested from the wild and other times grown in backyard gardens. Fruits can be consumed uncooked or turned into jam. Although the pulp is white and resembles an aril, it tastes far better than achacha. The fruit has a thick yellow skin that is often smooth but can occasionally be rough and contains a viscous yellow latex. It is rounded-conical, pointy at one or both ends, and measures between 10 and 14 cm across.
