In the Amazon rainforest, there is a unique Garcinia species called De Bico. The fruit’s prolonged rostrate connection to the peduncle, which resembles a beak, makes it easy to identify (hence, “de bico” in Portuguese). The fruit has a diameter of 5–6 cm, a length of 6–8 cm, and a significant amount of lemony, sweet flesh inside. Although it is not known if it is dioecious, most Garcinias are, thus it probably is. Its apomictic nature is likewise unknown. The thick, orange-yellow rind allows for a long holding period after picking. Sepal remains are left behind by the calyx. The pulp is divided into three to six wedge-shaped parts, some of which will be seed-filled, as is typical of other Garcinias.
