A recently identified plant species called Garcinia assamica can be found in the Assamese region near Manas National Park. It appears to be rare and has only recently been reported by a small number of people who live close to a rivulet. This new species resembles Garcinia nigrolineata in terms of its axillary short spike flower arrangement, convex disc stamen arrangement, number of staminodes in female flowers, and staminode arrangement; however, it differs from that species in that it has greenish-yellow (rather than yellowish) exudate, 2-5 female flowers fascicled at nodes as opposed to solitary flowers, and 4-5-locular ovaries as opposed to 5-7 The tree grows to a height of 15 metres, and its ripe fruits are orange-yellow with a juicy, sweet, and tart flavour.
