Mangosteens of the Garcinia xanthochymus species can be found from Peninsular Malaysia through Indochina, southern China, and Japan. It is an evergreen tree that can reach heights of 8 to 15 metres and has branches that are mostly horizontal and a dense pyramidal crown. The tree’s edible fruit and dyestuff are gathered from the wild as well as from cultivation and semi-cultivation. The yellow fruit with a thin peel can be eaten. It tastes sour and acidic with a lovely scent. It can be consumed raw, added to sherbets, jams, curries, vinegars, and other meals as flavouring. The fruit has antiscorbutic, cooling, emollient, and demulcent properties. The same uses as those of Garcinia indica apply to it.
