The evergreen shrub that is endemic to Brazil is called Cherry of the Rio Grande/Eugenia Involucrata. Rio Grande cherries are straightforward to grow and require little maintenance to result in robust, prolific plants. These unusual fruit trees, also referred to as Huge River Cherries, can be grown in pots. Open tropical and subtropical conditions may be favourable for it. The vast Myrtaceous family, which has 144 genera and about 5500 species divided into 10 clades, includes Cherry of the Rio Grande.

Its fruits are small and have a flavour similar to cherries. They can be dark red or purple in colour, and their thin skin hides meat that is lighter in colour and one to two tiny white seeds. A Cherry of the Rio Grande has a sweet flavour that has been likened to a combination of cherry and plum; some even assert that it contains undertones of banana.

The fruit has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The Eugenia species contains substantial amounts of vitamins A and C, as well as B vitamins, and very little iron, magnesium, or potassium.
