The best-tasting matoa variety is the uncommon and expensive black variant. It is a Papuan fruit tree that grows in tropical regions. Fiji longan, Taun Tree, Island Lychee, Tava, and Pacific Lychee are some of its more well-known names.
The fruit is edible, resembles litchi, and is a well-liked fruit. Fruit pulp is translucent, delicate, and squishy. It has a flavour all its own, resembling a blend of lichee or longan with a dash of durian. When the fruit is fully mature, the skin turns black.
