It is a Myrtaceae species that has a highly interesting and attractive appearance. It is a South American native. It is occasionally taken from the wild for its palatable fruits. Being an early bearing species, it begins to bloom at the age of three. The fruit that the tree produces is acidic and sweet, reminding one of Passiflora edulis.
