Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra are the natural habitats of the giant rainforest tree Garcinia atroviridis, sometimes referred to as asam gelugur, asam gelugo, or asam keping. Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, uses it as a common herbal remedy. It is also occasionally grown in gardens and is partially grown in the forest nearby for its tasty fruit. You can consume the huge fruits either fresh or cooked. Its pulp is quite acidic. It can be dried and then added to soups, and it produces wonderful jellies and compotes. The fruits are globose and have a diameter of 7 to 10 cm. The weight of a full fruit can reach 2 kg. The fruit’s thin, silky skin is a vivid orange-yellow colour. The fruit has numerous flattened, 1.5 cm long seeds that are encircled by vivid orange flesh.
