Spondias mombin, sometimes referred to as yellow mombin or hog plum, is a type of flowering tree and plant in the Anacardiaceae family. The tree is indigenous to the area and is widespread in moist lowland forests from southern Mexico to Peru and Brazil as well as in numerous West Indies islands. It has been planted in Bermuda, is grown in India and Indonesia to a small extent, is uncommon in Malaya, but is widely farmed and has become naturalised in tropical Africa. Beginning in the early 17th century, the Portuguese brought the tree to South Asia. The tree’s greatest height is between 10 and 15 metres. The yellow mombin is less coveted than the purple mombin and is preferred mostly by kids and travellers as a way to quench their thirst. Fruits that are ripe are typically either raw or cooked with sugar. Ice cream, cold beverages, and jelly are all made from the juice that is extracted. Those of fair quality are sometimes turned into jam and other preserves by some individuals.
