A small to medium-sized, bushy tree (9–24 ft), Eugenia verticillate is a member of the Myrtaceae family. It is a fascinating and unusual species native to Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, south of Sao Paolo. This species produces purple fruits with soft, thin skins that resemble flattened Suriname Cherries. The edible fruits, which are normally consumed fresh, are said to have a flavour resembling watermelon. Fruits without seeds work well in cake batter and can also be used to produce liquids, ice cream, and jellies.
