Vermicompost (sometimes spelled vermi-compost) is the end result of the decomposition process using different kinds of worms, typically red wigglers, white worms, and other earthworms, to produce a mixture of bedding materials, decomposing food or vegetable waste, and vermicast. Vermicompost improves water retention and aeration, reduces plant disease, increases soil porosity and microbial activity, and promotes plant growth. By lowering the demand for chemical fertilisers and lowering the volume of trash sent to landfills, vermicompost also helps the environment.
