A very rare relative of the annona from the rain forests of South America is called Duguetia spixiana. It is a small to medium-sized, evergreen tree with spherical, spiky fruits that have a bright red, sweet-tasting pulp underneath and a brown exterior. Fruit set on seedgrown plants takes three to five years.
