A magnificent small to medium-sized evergreen tree that seldom reaches heights of more than 10 m, with glossy green leaves up to 45 cm long and clusters of breathtaking red to magenta flowers on the trunk and branches. These flowers are followed by plum-sized, purplish black edible fruits. New Caledonian rainforests and gallery forests are the natural habitat of Syzygium longifolium. It thrives in tropical and certain mild temperate climates when grown.
