In Australia, Syzygium branderhorstii is typically a tiny tree, but in New Guinea, it can reach a height of 28 metres. It is an evergreen tree with a dense, rounded crown. The tree is cut down in the wild and used locally as food and a source of wood. It is a plant native to the damp lowlands of the tropics and may also be grown there, albeit it develops more slowly.
Raw fruit can be consumed. Its flesh is delicious and succulent. The white to dark purple fruits range in shape from 20 to 40mm diameter and 30 to 50mm long.
