Small and bushy, the sundrop tree, Eugenia Victoriana, is native to Colombia in northern South America. Locals forage for the edible fruit in the wild and eat it. On occasion, the plant is grown for its fruit. It thrives on rich, moist, well-drained soil in either full sun or moderate shade.
The thin-skinned, vibrant orange fruit is popular as a delightful flavouring for juices and may also be used to make delectable jams without the need for additional pectin. It has a highly succulent, aromatic flesh with an acidic flavour. Two to four easily separated seeds are present in the orange fruit.
