The extremely rare fruit Plinia sp., also known as Shawi in its native Ecuador, is quite similar to the Brazilian species Cambucá, however Cambucá’s fruits are smaller. The palatable fruit is gathered from the wild and occasionally offered for sale in nearby marketplaces. The pulp of the Shawi fruit is flavorful, sweet, plentiful, and delicious. The fruit doesn’t have a strong scent. Nearest to the seed is the pulp portion that has been enhanced with extra fibre and nutrients.
