A tree species in the Myrtaceae family, Campomanesia guazumifolia is indigenous to southern and eastern Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and other parts of southern South America. It can reach heights of three to eight metres and is a deciduous tree with an open crown. The slow growing plants are primarily of the subtropics, just entering the tropical zone. The edible fruits are infrequently collected from the wild for local consumption, and it is occasionally farmed in its native region for its edible fruit. It may thrive in both bright sunlight and dappled shade. The subglobose, yellow fruits are about 35mm in diameter it has a juicy, succulent pulp with an acidic-sweet flavour.
