A extremely rare evergreen tree, Sarcaulus brasiliensis is native to South America, including Northern Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and the Guyanas, as well as Central America, including Panama and Costa Rica. It has a 6–12 metre height range. The tree is cut down in the wild and used locally as food and a source of wood. The golden, globose fruit can be 25 mm in diameter and has one to two seeds inside of a mushy, mildly pleasant pulp.
