Saputa, also known as Cheiloclinium Cognatum, is a shrub or thin tree with scandent branches. It can reach heights of 4 to 12 metres. It is indigenous to South America, including Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru, as well as Central America’s Costa Rica and the Caribbean island of Tobago. The plant yields a round, edible fruit with a maximum diameter of 35 mm that is picked from the wild and eaten locally. It is supposed to have a good, juicy flavour.
