A rare member of the Sapotaceae family is the evergreen Chrysophyllum cuneifolium. It is indigenous to South American. A magnificent cauliflorous and ramiflorous tree, the sapoticaba bears fruit from the ground to the branches. When the tree is only a few metres tall, it begins to bloom. The tree is almost completely covered in yellow to orange fruits as the season begins. Fruits have 1 to 5 seeds and can be up to 5 cm in diameter. The seeds are encased in a translucent pulp that is sweet and delectable.
