A fruit related to the South American sapote called Matisia giacomettoi is extremely uncommon and edible. It is an evergreen tree with rapid growth that is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru’s Amazon jungle. The golf ball-sized fruits have a white, sweet pulp and turn from brown to orange-yellow as they develop. The luscious fruits that can be brewed into a drink or eaten raw. With its enormous, heart-shaped leaves, it also makes a lovely ornamental for tropical regions.
