A related relative of Garcinia Dulcis is Russell’s Sweet/Garcinia Russellii. Russell Francis, an Australian collector, made the discovery. On one of his journeys in 1987, he brought it from Bangkok, Thailand. Then it was grown in Australia’s northern regions.
The fruit resembles a Garcinia Dulcis, but it is bigger and has around 75% pulp weight, which is supposed to make it consistently sweeter. Russell Francis characterised the flavour as “sweet yellow peach combined with that unique mangosteen tang.”
The fruit ripens in the southern hemisphere between June and July and in the northern hemisphere between December and January. On average, the seeds weigh 6.4 grammes.
