Lemon and citrus Limon is a species of small evergreen tree that is endemic to Asia, particularly Northeast India, Northern Myanmar, and China. It is a member of the Rutaceae family of flowering plants.
Lemons have a mildly sweet flavour with a sharp, acidic aftertaste. They have a distinct zesty sour flavour, are colourful and lively, and have a mouth-puckering bitterness that prevents them from being consumed whole like other citrus fruits.
Vitamin C is abundant in lemons, giving 64% of the Daily Value in a 100 g serving as a benchmark (table). Numerous phytochemicals, including as polyphenols, terpenes, and tannins, are present in lemons. Citric acid concentrations in lemon juice are somewhat higher than in lime juice, about twice as high as in grapefruit juice, and roughly five times higher than in orange juice.
