A deciduous tree, Pouteria alnifolia, can reach a height of 25 metres. It is indigenous to east and central Africa. For usage as a source of food, medicine, and wood locally, the tree is cut down in the wild. The tasty, berry-sized fruits can be consumed raw. The fruit is a red, 15–25 mm long, globose to ellipsoid berry with a solitary, up to 20 mm long seed inside.
