An evergreen tree known as the “Pond Apple” or “Annona Glabra” is native to coastal areas of tropical and subtropical South and Central America, as well as Florida and the West Indies.
Because trees tend to grow in very hard environments with high salt, pond apples are frequently regarded as the “black sheep” of the apple family.
The Pond Apple is best eaten when fully ripe and soft, has a powerful aroma that resembles a particular flavour with a trace of menthol, and has a mildly sweet flavour. The fruit is consumed raw, or it is turned into drinks or jams.
