The 30-meter-tall Dracontomelon costatum is an upper canopy tree. The Anacardiaceae family of trees, which includes cashew and sumac. Borneo and Sumatra native (Brunei, Sabah, West-, Central-, South- and East-Kalimantan). The word “ribbed,” which refers to the leaf veins, is derived from the Latin in the specific epithet costatum. The fruit of the tree, which is foraged from the wild, is edible. Fruits have a pleasant, juicy, sweet flavour and can be consumed uncooked.
