Southeast Asia is the natural home of the flowering plant species known as Pitabu/Willughbeia Angustifolia, a woody monoecious vine in the Dogbane family. The species can be found in lowland and hill mixed dipterocarp forests in the Nicobar Islands, Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, and the Maluku Islands.
Pitabu has circular, smooth leaves that are long and wide. In the axillary inflorescences, tiny white blossoms are grouped in short cymes. The fruits are globose, yellow to orange berries with a latex-filled epicarp, tiny seeds, and a sweet orange sarcotesta. The pulp is a vibrant orange colour and is soft, juicy, and flavorful. The fruit, which is about the size of a baseball, resembles orange and yellow passion fruit.
