A pera do campo grows 50–150 cm tall and is a little deciduous shrub. In the Federal District, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul, it is found naturally in cedarados and fields. While the plant is occasionally cultivated in some regions of Brazil for the fruits, the palatable fruit is gathered from the wild for local usage. Fruits can be consumed fresh or turned into jams and jellies. The juicy, acidic fruits have a pear-like form and are fragrant.
