Originally from South America, Solanum muricatum is a species of evergreen shrub that is grown for its sweet edible fruit that tastes like honeydew or rockmelon and has a juicy melon-like texture. It is also known as sweet cucumber, pepino, or pepino dulce. The fruit has 92% water, 7% carbs, and 35mg of vitamin C per 100g. The fruit can be stored for several weeks at room temperature if it is picked just before it reaches full ripeness. The fruit is around 6 cm diameter and 10 cm long. For best growth, the plant prefers well-drained soil in a sunny location.
