A species of flowering plant from the Acerola family, Malpighiaceae, known as the peanut butter fruit or Bunchosia glandulifera, is indigenous to Central and South America.
It produces tiny orange-red fruits with a rich, sticky pulp that has a peanut butter-like flavour and aroma. Although it can be used to make jellies, jams, or preserves, fresh consumption is the norm. Because of the berries’ resemblance to coffee on the surface, it is known as caferana or falso guarana in Brazil.
