Ongo Fruit Live Plant (Myrianthus Arboreus)

Tropical Africa—from Guinea to the Central African Republic and Uganda, south to Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania—is home to the shrub or tree known as the ongo fruit, or Myrianthus arboreus. It grows 10 to 20 metres tall and has a spreading, many-branched crown. The fruit, which can reach a diameter of 10 to 15 cm, is heart-shaped and has 5 to 15 seeds, each of which is covered by a sweet or acidulous pulp. When unripe, the fruit is quite hard and green; however, when mature, it turns yellow and soft. Its young leaves are likewise cooked.
