Evergreen Palaquium rostratum trees can reach heights of 45 metres. Large plank buttresses support the straight, cylindrical bole, which can range in diameter from 120 to 200 cm. Southeast Asian natives include Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. For local use, the tree supplies an edible fruit and oil that are foraged in the wild. Additionally, it offers lumber that is both locally used and traded under the name “Nyatoh.” The fruits are long, green drupes that range in size from 24 to 40 mm. They have an avocado-like flavour and can be used to make oil that is used in cooking.
