The tropical perennial plant Solanum quitoense, also known as naranjilla in Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Panama and as lulo in Colombia, is native to the northwestern part of South America. It has a height range of 1-3 metres. One of the most prized fruit harvests in South America’s Andes, the raw fruit is sweetened to produce a delectable juice. Stinging hairs cover the fruits, although they are simple to remove. Although fruits can be consumed fresh, they are primarily utilised in sauces and preserves.
