The family Melastomataceae includes the genus Mouriri, which is native to South America and includes Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, and French Guiana. Typically, the plant grows 4 to 10 metres tall. For the local populace, the tree produces a fruit that can be eaten. Although it is typically harvested from the wild, it is occasionally grown in backyard gardens. The globular, orange-red fruits have a 25mm diameter. It’s typically consumed raw. Its pulp is delicious and luscious and contains one to three seeds. The tree grows well in a sunny location.
