Mountain Soursop Live Plants (Annona Montana)

 

 

Mountain Soursop/Annona Montana is a tiny, evergreen tree that is native to the West Indies, Peru, and Brazil and is grown in South America and the Philippines. It has an uneven, spreading crown. Trees bear after just two to three years and have huge, leathery green leaves that have a potent scent when crushed. It closely resembles soursop in appearance. The orange pulp of this fruit is exceedingly aromatic and contains light brown to orange seeds. The fruit is spherical, with yellowish skin covered with prickles. When fully ripe, they are eaten straight from the tree for dessert or blended with milk or ice cream to create a beverage.

Common Names: Custard apple, cherimoya, guanabana, soursop, and Brazilian paw.

Planting and Care

Two trees are necessary for better pollination chances in moist, rich soil that is sensitive to low temperatures but can withstand light frost. This soil also needs mulch.

Uses/Benefits

Although pulp is used mostly for juice, it can be eaten raw in desserts.
When fully mature, the fruits are eaten straight from the tree for dessert or blended with milk or ice cream to create a beverage. Young fruits are picked while the seeds are still pliable and cooked as vegetables in soups and other dishes.
