A small tree or deciduous shrub, Jacaratia mexicana can reach heights of 5 to 12 metres, with some individuals reaching even higher. The dry regions of Southern Mexico and Central America are the natural habitat of this species. This amazing papaya grows wild in arid forests and has 4 to 15 cm long, strongly winged, oblong fruits with a sweet flavour that ripen to yellow-green. You can consume fruit either raw or cooked. It is typically consumed raw, cooked, or turned into a variety of sweetmeats.
