Southeast Asian native Bouea Macrophylla, also known as Maparang Fruit, also goes by the names Gandaria, Plum Mango, and Mango Plum. Orange-colored, juicy flesh that adheres to the seed with a tinge of turpentine and has a sweet or sweet-and-sour flavour. Mango-like in flavour and plum-like in feel The mango family is the same as this one. Beta-carotene, fibre, and vitamin C are all abundant in maprang. The fruit is also rich in phosphorus, calcium, and iron.

Planting and Care

Maintain regular moisture surrounding the plant, don't overwater, apply a thick layer of mulch around the roots, and feed the plant with an organic fertiliser twice a year.

Uses/Benefits

Fresh, out-of-hand consumption of mature Maprang mangoes is common. This fruit can be prepared locally as a compote or used to sambal and rojak. The leaves of the Maprang tree are edible and can be added to salads or served alongside vegetables.
