It is a type of tree that is indigenous to the Brazilian states of Acre, Maranhao, Mata Atlântica, Amapá, Bahia, Pará, RondôNia, Rio De Janeiro, Espirito Santo, and AmazôNia. They have simple, broad leaves, fruit, and a self-supporting growth structure. The fruit is highly prized in Brazil, where it is both frequently cultivated and also collected from the wild, particularly in the Rio de Janeiro area.
