Litchee/Litchi Chinensis is a small, tropical fruit with Chinese origins that grows on a slow-growing, highly ornamental, evergreen tree of the soapberry family (Sapindaceous). It typically produces eatable fruit as it matures. Nowadays, tropical and subtropical locations are commonly where litchi grows. It is commercially farmed in more than 20 countries. The main countries that produce litchis are China, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and South Africa.
Litchi fruits come in a range of colours, from green to red, and forms, from oval to spherical. The outer pericarp encloses the white translucent pulp and the dark brown seed. While the fresh, juicy, sweet pulp’s flavour is fragrant and musky, the dried pulp’s flavour is acidic and exceedingly sweet.
