The plant species Campomanesia hirsuta belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It is a semi-evergreen tree with a roughly pyramidal crown that is indigenous to eastern Brazil in South America. It is a tiny, branching tree or shrub that grows to a height of 1-4 metres. Although the tree is extremely scarce in the wild, its edible fruit has been gathered. It can be grown in backyard gardens. The green, globose fruit has an acidic flavour and can be eaten raw or cooked. It is perfect for making juices and jellies.
