A scrambling shrub in the Cactaceae family with the common names Gooseberry, Blade-Apple Cactus, Leaf Cactus, and Barbados gooseberries is the Lemonvine/Pereskia Aculeata.
Round or oval in shape, Barbados gooseberries can be recognised by their hues of deep orange or golden yellow. Soft, luscious, opaque meat with brown or black seeds is covered in fine, smooth skin. Red currants from Barbados have a tart flavour with mellow undertones. Initially a deciduous shrub, this plant uses its grapevine-like branches to climb and spread out as it grows. The leaves are meaty and tasty, while the branches and fruits both have thorns.
