The tropical evergreen tree Lacucha, commonly referred to as monkey fruit or monkey jack, is a member of the Moraceae family. It is found all over Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. The fruit of the tree, which is edible and is said to have medical benefits, is also prized for its wood. In the tropics of the Old and New Worlds, particularly in northern India, the tree is occasionally cultivated for its fruit, which is frequently sold in local marketplaces. China, India, Nepal, Sikkim, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia are its native countries in East Asia. Although the fruit is frequently used in curries and chutneys, it is also occasionally consumed raw. The fruit has a delightful subacid flavour and can grow up to 7.5 cm long.
