Southeast Brazil in South America is the native habitat of the 4–8 m tall Jaboticaba Grauda/Plinia Grandifolia, an evergreen tree with a dense crown. For use locally, the tree’s fruit and timber are collected from the wild. It is occasionally grown in domestic orchards for its fruit, which is eaten in the area.
The fruit’s reddish-purple pulp is sweet, succulent, and acidic.
